Blog Action Day, last minute

Monday’s not over for another 7 minutes! So I will do a quick, quick blog on why I do all the crazy shit that I do for the environment. Aside from agreeing vigorously with this video on the logic of Climate Change action, I must credit it with my elementary school teachers, who made environmental education and the nurturing of compassion a priority in their teaching. It may not have stuck with others, but my brother and I were sponges for the stuff – the idea that not only are we both intellectually highly capable, but that we (the two of us, but also human beings in general) collectively owe it, as our birthright and privilege as citizens of the world, to use our powers for good. It fused fairly well with my family frugality and resourcefulness, and though our parents don’t consciously demonstrate much interest beyond the urban frame, my brother and I have also both sought to expand our horizons by venturing outside of city limits.

Anyway, fundamentally, I still believe in the abundance of the world, as long as we treat it right. It won’t be summer or oil-a-plenty time forever, so my bet’s on learning what I need to do OK in the decline. And I have no plans to be depressed about it either!
