Just received word this morning from NearlyFreeSpeech, my hosting provider, that they’ll be moving their equipment to a new datacentre, so this site will be down for four to eight hours this coming Monday. I think this will not affect my email (third-party hosted with a MX record from NFS directing the traffic), but I’ve asked just to be sure – a reply directed at someone else indicates that they’re hoping this will be so but can’t quite guarantee it. I’m considering re-jigging my DNS so I could keep the email up, and restrict the email sketchiness to the weekend, but I’m going to ArtCamp on Saturday so this would all have to happen on Sunday.
Update: This will apparently affect email. They tell me they’re working on it and will know sometime in the next while whether they’ll be able to keep DNS online for the duration. A DNS change on Sunday is still possible, which would affect this site as well. I’ll probably leave things as they are – no need to extend the downtime to save my email when most of the time so little of it is relevant to me anyway.
