Quick pondering on my greenness

In the environment I am currently in, I often wonder what kind of a role I could have, in this Behemoth, in the corporate social responsibility realm. (Putting aside that CSR is more justification than change, etc.) For some strange reason, I haven’t determined yet whether the management would be willing to discriminate between ‘an employee with interests in sustainability’ and ‘an employee working towards a sustainability in the corporation.’ I would like to be the latter, but for a person of my limited experience, maybe I’d have to start out as the former and work my way into the latter? I don’t believe in waiting, so if that is how it is going to have to go, I’m just going to go roll up my sleeves and make a difference where I can see it in order to cure myself of that “limited experience” bit, rather than waiting for the right opportunity to drop in my lap. The goal is, after all, to create my job.

…right?

I’ve never been very comfortable with being green in the “inexperienced” sense.

I think this area is primed for leadership in most companies. Pitch the operational manager of the area you are improving: office supplies, building operation etc. If they like your ideas they are likely to ask you to propose.

I find most are at least conscious of the need to change but are too busy or too chicken to initiate it themselves. Just try to consider all other angles of the changes you propose.
