There are two fun events coming up in Toronto–one I’m not certain I can make and one I definitely will be going to. They both tap into my youthful idealism regarding changing the world and my optimism that change is not only possible, but in the making. And that we can all have a great ball finding out how to do it and about ourselves in the process, and just what we are capable of all at once.
The first event is on tomorrow, November 2nd, at Metro Hall smack-dab in the middle of downtown Toronto, courtesy those crazy lovebirds over at newmindspace, who are working this time with WWF on an urban art installation to fight climate change (fresh off their Hallowe’en streetcar party). The information I’ve seen so far says there will be things happening there all day; hopefully there will still be some excitement left when I make my way down from Markham!
The second event is the Toronto stop of the WorldChanging tour to promote the book version of the social-technology-philanthropy blog on November 14th at Berkeley Church on Queen Street. I’ve been reading WorldChanging for almost a year now, and I never cease to be inspired by the amazing things that are being done that I’d never know about if it weren’t for that site. It reminds me why I’m doing what I’m doing now, and is a throwback to a year ago, when I was first getting into ideas of economic development for capacity building through social technology.
Both definitely attest to the power of a couple good ideas and a couple of dedicated people who are willing to do what it takes to mobilize a reasonable-sized crowd to go out and do something cool (even at ungodly hours of the cold Toronto morning)–the only thing that’s ever changed the world, right, Margaret?
